Flax is one of the traditional crops grown for fiber. In this workshop, we will cover all aspects of flax growing, harvesting, preparation for spinning as well as yarn production and finishing. Students will experience hands on all stages of fiber prep, from breaking to scutching to hackling and spinning, picking up helpful; tips and learning the necessary skills to successfully produce a linen thread.
What students need to bring: Something to eat for lunch. Spinning wheel and their usual spinning tools, hand carders if they have them. (If you need to borrow a spinning wheel or hand carders send an email to info@ullarvikan.is after booking the workshop and we will provide one for you)
Preparation for workshop: Student should be able to spin a consistent thread and understand how to adjust their wheels, whether the wheel is manual or electric. They can use a drop spindle as well.
What is included in workshop fee: All materials for spinning is included.
