Program, Wool Week in South Iceland 4. – 11. OCTOBER 2020

Day 1. Sunday 4th Oct. 

14.00 – 17.00 Opening Do: “Let´s cast on” at new Thingborg (Community Hall) , get together, entertainment and coffee.

Day 2. Monday 5th Oct.

10.00 – 16.00 Open house at mini mill UPPSPUNI
10.00 – 14.00 sheep shearing, pick a sheep´s fleece on the hoof and order your “yarn from the farm” at the mill! www.uppspuni.is

Day 3. Tuesday 6th Oct.

yet to be confirmed:15.00 – 18.00, Open sheep stable at ÓSABAKKI farm, see the many colours of the Icelandic sheep on the hoof and hear about breeding criteria and colour genetics, meet the farmer.

Day 4. Wednesday 7th Oct.

15.00 – 18.00 some workshops at Thingborg

Day 5. Thursday 8th Oct.

15.00 – 18.00 workshops 09.00 – 16.00 a few all day workshops
19.00 Spinn meet (and always knitting) & 20.00 presentation on “feldfé”, a branch of Icelandic sheep with specially bred for skins. Show and tell of FeldéProducts from the breeders and makers at the new Thingborg.

Day 6. Friday 9th Oct.

09.00 – 12.00 and 13.00 – 16.00: Main day for workshops in several locations
18.00 Knitting meet & yarn exchange & 20.00 talk on wool as a natural and sustainable material at the new Thingborg. Thingborg Community Hall open all day for coffee and knitting.

Day 7. Saturday 10th Oct.

09.00 – 12.00 some workshops
09.00 – 16.00 “Maker´s Market” at Thingborg Community Hall
14.00: “ULL Í FAT”, Spinning competition yet to be confirmed: Evening: dinner and party.

Day 8. Sunday 11th Oct.

10.30 Morning coffee at the new Thingborg & 11.00 presentation on the North Atlantic short tail breed of sheep.
13.00 – 15.30 “Litasýning” , meet the sheep and local farmers: breeding show of coloured sheep, on the farm Árbæjarhjáleiga in the riding arena, homemade cakes and coffee, fleece sale and more.
